Brompton Bicycle Inc., of Brooklyn, New York, has recalled over 8,400 folding Brompton bicycles because the bottom bracket can break during use, posing a fall hazard.
No injuries have been reported, but the problem poses an injury risk to consumers.
This recall involves folding Brompton bicycles with the brand-name “Brompton” printed on the bicycle’s frame.
The recall only includes bicycles with Serial #1403284144 through #1705150001. The serial number is printed on a curved plate or sticker, applied to the rear of the seat tube.
If the barcode sticker on the bike is faded or rubbed off, submit the 6-digit frame # on the metal plate behind the bottom bracket and seat tube via email to support@brompton.com to get the serial number.
They were sold at bicycle stores and Brompton dealers nationwide from April 2014 to September 2017 for between $1,200 and $3,000
Consumers should stop using the bicycles and contact Brompton for free installation of a new bottom bracket cartridge.
